Love at first sight… Think we are talking about our clients’ love story? This time we are referring to how we felt after meeting Amy and John when they came in for a meeting to our Toronto studio. Sure, we were excited to shoot their Muskoka wedding, but even more so about the chemistry we felt – the room filled with laughter, jokes and smiles. We knew we were off to a good start!
The weather always plays a significant role in setting the mood for the day and sometimes it just doesn’t want to cooperate – it was pouring hard upon our arrival to Muskoka’s Stills Bay. So this time the weather created a romantic vibe, with the rain tapping on the roof of the cottage where the girls were getting ready. It was a quite chilly September day and Amy rocked converse sneakers underneath her dress to keep warm (red, too!). Speaking of her dress (one of the most gorgeous gowns we have ever seen) – instead of going for a traditional white colour, Amy donned a light peach gown with intricate lace detailing that had a rhinestone band around her waist. She had a sleek updo with a delicate headband over her blonde hair and beautiful drop earrings to compliment her soft overall look, while the handsome groom wore a striking dark navy suit with a blue tie.
Let’s talk about the first reveal. Some brides come into our studio not having an exact idea of how they want to proceed with the schedule, as usually we are their second vendors to book after confirming the venue. The timeline can get tricky and stressful for the bride and groom as sometimes we end up having too little time to take photos after the actual ceremony – and this is where we suggest to do the “first look” and have a mini photoshoot before the ceremony. We can either have your friends and family in it or go the more intimate route and do it with just the bride and the groom. We did Amy and John’s first look on the porch outside of the cottage with the bridal party by their side.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and in this case, it was a worth a million – the shots capturing John seeing Amy for the first time are truly heartwarming. In moments like these we always remember why we love our jobs so much! John and Amy were the definition of ALIVE. You know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you are witnessing something truly special? That was it. And guess what? The sun has finally come out and we took some gorgeous pictures under the soft September sun.
The ceremony was full of special moments that had even us tear up. Amy’s dad leading her to the altar and giving her a tight hug before letting go. Amy rocking the dancefloor with her grandfather – the man can dance! We noticed a beautiful lantern on one of the tables and note beside it read: “This antique naval lantern was a gift from Amy’s grandfather to his wife in June of 1967 on their 20th wedding anniversary”. One of the walls of the tent where the party took place was covered with the pictures of Amy and John through the years.
It was one of those wonderfully emotional days that will stay in our memories forever. We are honoured to have been a part of John and Amy’s special day and wishing them to keep on rocking and laughing for many, many years to come!
