Like any resident of Canada, we dream about sunny California during the winter days. When Ksenia from Affairy Events organized this creative shoot in Malibu last March, we immediately packed our bags to be part of something we anticipated to be magical just from hearing about the location itself.
One step into Malibu’s Cielo Farms, and we were instantly blown away with the breathtaking view. With the Santa Monica Mountains in plain sight, it felt like we were on top of the world! The creative team made up of wedding vendors from California knew they wanted to do something unique in order to capture what the venue has to offer. We wanted to steer away from overusing the classic combination of whites and gold, and explored the purple and the blues.
The wooden furniture and stonewalls of the vineyard made it easy for the bold colours to pop. The combination of dark and vibrant colours in the table setting in particular created a bohemian chic style with a hint of modern gothic inspiration. Besides the mouth-watering layered cakes by Sweet Laurel baker, the black marble chargers were our favourite to admire. They added more contrast and texture to the overall arrangement.
Since the shoot took place in a landscape full of greenery, the flower power had to come through strong, but not overwhelming. The Of The Flowers team is an expert in creating everlasting impressions with their floral arrangements. Their garden bouquet added the soft romantic element that you just can’t ignore. It definitely added character to the whole outdoor scene.
We love playing with the bride’s gown when it comes to photographing solo portraits of them. Whether it’s a flowing skirt or a lacy veil, we want to show off your dress for you. For this shoot, the bride’s cape amplified the magnificent sunset scene by the infinity pool. The bouquet of raw magnolia branches provided the subtle rustic elegance to the bold fashion statement of the gown’s V-neck body.
We feel incredibly lucky to be part of a project that drew inspiration from different styles to produce their own. This California shoot is still something we dream about. We hope to have more opportunities to work with talented vendors from different parts of the world, to create a world of our own.
